El vuelo de Spirit Airlines de Dallas a Orlando, Florida, aterrizó en Jacksonville después de que se iniciara un incendio durante el vuelo, con 10 pasajeros y miembros de la tripulación trasladados a hospitales del área luego del incidente.

La tripulación de la aerolínea ayudó a tomar “la batería que causó el problema y la sumergió en una tina de agua en su cocina”, dijo el capitán del Departamento de Bomberos y Rescate de Jacksonville, Eric Prosswimmer, a USA TODAY. Prosswimmer declined to comment on the individuals’ conditions, but he said none of the people were in life-threatening condition, and they were transported “predominantly as a result of the smoke” from the fire onboard.
The people taken to hospitals were a mix of passengers and crew on the plane.
Spirit Airlines in a statement to USA TODAY thanked “our crew and Guests for their quick actions to ensure the safety of everyone onboard, and we thank first responders for meeting the aircraft.”
“We provided refunds and vouchers, and we arranged alternate ground transportation for our Guests from Jacksonville to Orlando,” the airline said.
The FAA confirmed it will investigate the incident.
Prosswimmer said he encourages people to charge electronic devices prior to traveling, and “if you’re going to charge on the plane, do it somewhere where you can see. If it’s out of sight, than that can create issues.”
The Wednesday incident comes weeks after four flight attendants on a United Airlines flight were taken to a hospital after flight crew reported a “laptop on fire in the cabin,” on a flight between San Diego International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
